(AFSP) American Foundation of Suicide Prevention used an interactive screening process to find the risks of suicides in college students. Students were invited to participate through an email from university officials and were directed to a safe, program-developed website where they completed a short questionnaire that covers depression and other related problems. They found that 85% who completed the questionnaire online were found to have several psychological problems and were not getting any form of help. They did have about 20 percent of the 85 come in and participate in a face to face evaluation which, I think helped get a better understanding of their problems and get them the help they needed. I don't think I would change much about this program it seems to give the person in need of help the confidence they need to get help. They were allowed to continue massaging the Clinician while remaining anonymous which in turn allows them to ask questions freely and feel comfortable seeking help. The program provided an opportunity for students who were uncertain about treatment with issues such as confidentiality or costs for help. It kind of directed them to get help for themselves, which I think is needed for most people who are having these sorts of problems. Although I don't think much can change the mind of someone who has their mind set on suicide. I still believe there is hope, i don't want any family to experience what I and my family experienced even though were not alone and there are about 33,000 other families going through this same loss.
