Are the Kids All Right?

I found this article quite interesting. Stress and managing stress is a very important topic for all ages. This directly relates to developmental psychology because excessive stress can cause long term neurological problems. People of all ages have stress and can be overcome with it. So how should we deal with this stress? The most common answer is exercise. Exercise is a useful stress management tool, but it is not the only technique. Meditation is also a strong technique that can be used to manage stress. I don’t mean sitting crossed legged saying “ummm.” There is more than one meditation technique. The most basic is sitting comfortably in a quite area with your eyes closed and take a few deep breathes. For more stress management techniques look at http://www.mindtools.com/stress/RelaxationTechniques/IntroPage.htm.

Stress is a part of all of our lives and will always be a part of our lives. Managing our stress is important, no matter what the situation is or who we are. Also if you have children or if you plan to have children I urge you to realize that they are stressed too, and can be overly stressed. Personally I never talked to my parents about when or why I was stressed, I wish I did, it probably would’ve made my childhood more enjoyable. Be open to them and even show them healthy ways to deal with their stress.

  1. This was a very interesting article. My mother is a pharmacist, so her schooling was a very stressful process. She would always give me pointers on how to utilize that stress when it came to academics.
I do think this is something you tend to learn from example too. From a very early age, I would see how my mother would deal with stress in an effective manner. For me, I do believe that saying that actions really do speak louder than words.

  2. I strongly believe in these stress relief techniques. These methods have been around a long time and been proven to be effective time after time. These are part of western and chinese medicine practices, which has been around thousands of years before our modern medicine, and they have the data to support that it has been proven to work.

Modern medicine has helped problems that were once untreatable such as polio, but we should also learn to incorporate the teachings of these older practices which have been beneficial and effetive, without all those side effects from medicine we now see advertised on t.v.

  3. Learning techniques that can help with stress is very important. Stress is inevitable in any person's life and having safe ways to deal with it can only make life easier, even if only a little. That little bit is something you won't have to deal with or worry about later on. Stress relief can only help.
