This article caught my attention because of the last sentence. In class we have been talking about groups and conformity and this article is about a survey study that showed that narcissistic heterosexual men target their hostility mostly toward heterosexual women. Some say it’s because strait women have the supreme ability to either satisfy or crush their desires. I agree, especially in today’s society. Women are becoming stronger and a lot less willing to conform. I also think that there should be the same kind of study done on the other groups. I would be interested in seeing where their hostility is projected. Do gay men target other gay men, and what about heterosexual women… who do they target?

This study seems incomplete. They should havestudied a wide range narcissistic people. Also when does narcissism start in a individual? Maybe that's where these studies will lead researchers. Its seems like the reason narcissistic men target straight women could be caused by a many things. This study hopefully will continue and give us better idea about how to keep our children from developing narcissistic traits or how a person who is narcissistic to help themselves.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the above comment, it does seem to be incomplete. I definatly think that more research should be done on this topic. I think it could be benifical to all of us to learn where our narcissistic side comes from. If we know more aout this side of us then maybe we can learn to better handle this emotion when we our presented with it. After all I was always told growing up, "that knowledge is power". I also have to agree with the above article, I am also curious to know if gay men target other gay men. From what I have seen and heard I would have to say it is true. However, I can't say it is from being a narcissiste or not. I would also like to know who women target. Any ideals?
ReplyDeleteI think this shows what most people already know: narcissistic heterosexual men seek pleasure from heterosexual women, receive visual pleasure from homosexual women, and receive no sort of pleasure from homosexual men. Obviously homosexuals aren't going to have any power over whether the men receive this pleasure or not, but heterosexual women hold all the cards. The way we act, talk, and live every day has an adverse effect on the men around us whether we realize it or not. Narcissists believe they have a right to the pleasures others can give them, therefore if they don't get what they want, they will form hostile feelings toward the group that won't "deliver the goods"- heterosexual women. It would be interesting to see how the other groups feel about each other, though.
